Good Morning Everyone! What a beautiful day to praise the Lord! On a side note of the Bible Reading, I am also on Day 4 of my fast and God has been revealing so much to me about my own faith. God is so good!!!!
Today's reading is Genesis 31, Galatians 6 and Psalm 7
all 3 passages deal with the same thing, God protecting those who are following Him. I am actually going to start with the passage in Galatians today. In Galatians we see that Paul is still trying to tell the people of Galatia that it really isn't what you do but more the heart you do it in. There was no need for circumcision to happen any longer, becasue with Christ dying for us and the Holy Spirit coming into the person who has accepted Him as their Savior.
Paul also tells us that what we do, in the heart that we do it, is what we will get back to us. "What you reap is what you sow." I have always held close that it is not what you do but the heart in which you do it. "For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life." Galatians 6:8. This is not said as a way to guilt people into doing God's work, but to open your eyes to how God wants us to serve. It should not be a "job" that is a trial for us, but something we are loving to do becasue we are doing it for God.
Last night Pastor Darian told the students that God either wants us on fire for Him or cold and not even say we know Him, rather then us being lukewarm for Him, not either hot nor cold. In revelation it says that He wants to vomit out those who are only lukewarm. I don't want to be that way. I never want my life to be something God wants to vomit out. I want to continue to be on fire for Him and He wants that as well.
In Psalm 7 and Genesis 31 it talks about how God will protect those who are following Him. The psalms (or songs) or David are always a comfort to my heart. He has been through everything and has a song about how he responded to it. Daivd would cry out to God for help, in praise and in his time of need. He would ask God and depend on Him for salvation from his enemies and from his own self destruction.
And that brings us to Jacob, Rachel and Leah. It was time to leave the girls' father's house. He had used Jacob for about 20 years, making him 14 years to get his wives and then another 6 years in the field for his flock. He changed his wages 10 times, and God saw how Laban was treating Jacob. I think God has a since of humor and when Laban was just being hateful and would change Jacob's wages to just the spotted born to his flock, God would give the flock lots of spotted, then he changed his wages to the speckled and God brought speckled to the flock.
God also protected Jacob when Laban came to find the things Jacob had "stolen." The thing is that Jacob was totally innocent, even thought Rachel had stolen from her father. I laughed that she put the kitchen idols under her on the camel and then told her father that it was "her time of the month" and so he couldn't look on her camel. That just made me laugh, thinking how many time women blame that for something and people just are like "ok, that is fine."
Jacob and Laban make a deal with one another to stay on their own sides of the pillar and now cross over to each other's land. This is important, becasue God had told Jacob He would protect him from his father in law and this was a very visual way for Him to keep Laban out of Jacob's land.
I am really loving this reading and all the questions are helping me as well. God is showing me so many things I have not really thought about through your questions too :O) This is an amazing group!!!! God Bless you day!
