Day 15

Happy Saturday Friends! How is the reading going?

Today's reading is Genesis 35-36 and Job 1

In both we see how these 2 men of God bring a sacrifice to God for their children's sins. In the story with Jacob he brings with sacrifice to God for his sons killing the men that defiled their sister. Jacob during this time did not sin himself, but he took the idols from his house and buried them, then he took his whole family up to a place to give a sacrifice to God. While doing this he spoke with God and God blessed him and changed his name to Israel. He gave Israel the same promise of his father and grandfather and blessed him. On his way home is beloved Rachel gave birth to Benjamin and died during the birth of her son.

In Job we see that he was an upright man, a man who feared and loved God. God had then blessed the hard work that Job had done and he was very wealthy, the highest in the land of Uz. Even though he was an upright man, his children had fallen away, but he still praised God. After his children would go to their brother's house and drink all night, Job would go offer up a sacrifice for each of his children. As a mom I know that you just want you children to follow God, I can imagine that Job was very sad each time he went and did this. Still he never questioned God, he never cursed God for his children's choices. Not only that but when the devil comes and attacks, in a major way, Job never sins against God. His farmland is taken, the animals killed, and worst yet his children all died in a wind storm that took out his son's house. And what did he do? Melt down and question God? No! Did he wallow in his own misery? No! He torn his robe and shaved his head (which was a sign of morning) and the worshiped God. He didn't question what He had done. He didn't curse God for this tragedy. Nope! He worshiped God by saying "Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Job and Jacob are examples of parents that love their children, but love God even more! I know most of you, who are parents would do anything for your children... is that the same case with God? Would you drop what you are doing for Him? If everything you had was taken away, would you praise God?

I pray everyone is doing well with the reading and that you can see God talking to you personally in each of these readings. Have a wonderful weekend!
